The Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center presented their study, “Unstable Ladder: How the Fiscal Crisis Threatens Work Supports That Many Working Women Rely On” to Women's Fund grantee partners and local non-profit organizations. The report examined key MA government programs and supports that help women enter and stay in the workforce, and reviewed the impact that the fiscal crisis has had on them.

Women's Fund held an information session on the 2010 Census and its impact on the state budget.  The presentation was made in conjunction with the Solidago Foundation and the U.S. 2010 Census. 

 

2009 Annual Celebration

The Log Cabin was filled with the energy of over 250 friends of the Women's Fund during this year's Annual Celebration. Attendees met with the Women's Fund 2009 grantee partners, heard keynote speaker Kathy LeMay, and supported the Women's Fund continued commitment to education, economic security and safety from violence. The Women's Fund also honored two Ripple Effect Award recipients from our grantee partner MotherWoman, Marianne Bullock and Bessie Jones, for the amazing work that they do on behalf of the mothers in their communities.

Diana Coryat, former founder and director of Global Action Project in New York City and Fulbright scholar, offered a workshop about Memory Workshops, a creative, participatory, and collective methodology that helps organizations plan for and assess positive change among participants and even staff.  The technique showed how organizations can track how participants see themselves and change as a result of the programs that are offered to them.

A special workshop retreat for Women’s Fund Grantee Partners, Board Members and Staff

Dr. Maria Sirois, former board member of The Women's Fund and author of Every Day Counts: Lessons in Love, Faith and Resilience From Children Facing Illness, offered an afternoon of story, research, poetry and wisdom to help sustain ourselves in difficult times in our workplace and at home.  Based on the fields of mind/body medicine, positive psychology and wisdom traditions, the workshop will offer inspirational stories and training in techniques to strengthen our capacity to be resilient.

 

Women Taking Next Steps

Attendees of this unique gathering of representatives from 8 local colleges and more than 20 service organizations geared up to take the next steps to advance their lives. Financial aid info session and an info session from the White House Project were also available. To quote one participant " I've just done some great networking!"

 

2009 Golf Classic

Despite the challenging economy, this year’s tournament was a great success, matching last year’s fundraising goal of $15,000. The tournament also attracted a full field of  more than 150 attendees—one of few golf tournaments in the area to do so this season. This year's giveaway bag was made by the women of the Walaalo Somali Sisters Collective, a 2009 grantee of the Women's Fund. Once again, the Eileen Fisher store of Northampton chose the Women’s Fund as the recipient of its Spring shopping day, generously contributing 10% of the day’s proceeds in support of the foundation’s work.

 

Women’s Fund Capacity Building Conference

The 2009 Women’s Fund Conference, “Innovative Voices: Crafting a New Agenda for Leadership” drew over 200 hundred professional women from across all sectors. Attendees enjoyed keynote speaker Sara Laschever, bestselling author of Ask For It: How Women Can Use the Power of Negotiation to Get What They Really Want, as well as luncheon speaker and comedienne René Hicks. The diverse and talented workshop presenters from across the state were joined by more than 25 event sponsors and exhibitors to create a day rich with networking and information sharing opportunities for conference attendees.
